Hello sailor!
For those Sailor Moon 'fans' hoping that this will contribute to her
bizarre erotic manga legacy, look elsewhere. Conversely, this also isn't a
little girls game. If you get past the childish appearance of the characters
under your control this is one of the better RPGs I've ever played.
All the sailors are there for you to use (you can't be Tuxedo Kamen or
anyone else like that) and there's a very complicated and engrossing
storyline. Even if you've never seen the anime (and I hadn't when I started
playing) you should still find what's going on engaging. Be warned this is
also a VERY LONG game and shouldn't be played if you have homework due any
time soon.
The Sailors all have control over a certain element (Moon- Heart, Mars-
Fire, Jupiter- Lightning, etc) and have a few specials you can do involving
them. In a fashion similar to Chrono Trigger, these techniques can be
combined between two or sometimes three sailors to make more powerful
attacks. There a few formation attacks which involve all five sailor senshi
in your party, but these are generic and aren't effected by what sailors you
have.
The difficulty level is a bit crazy, swinging from laughably easy to
horribly difficult and back again multiple times, but it balances out
nicely. And the wandering villager dialogue is refreshingly different. In
general the game keeps free of cliche. This is probably due to the fact that
its set mostly in a modern day Japan setting, as opposed to most RPGs which
have the medievel thing going on.
So certainly worth the download. A warning though: Pay attention to that
colossal intro the first time, you won't want to sit through it again. It's
also nice if you know a Japanese person so you can ask them what 'fuufuufuu'
is indicative of.
